Plan to attend these two free short sessions at the Utility Products Conference & Expo, co-located with the DistribuTECH Conference & Expo.

Managing Electrical Operations

This session, presented in two parts, is designed to provide utility management personnel with an orientation to transmission and distribution hardware and equipment, including underground distribution and substations. Covering a broad scope of information, participants will gain a better understanding of an electrical utility operations system, safe work practices, work methods utilized by employees and contractors, and identification of specific electrical equipment.

PART ONE: (1 hour)

  • Understanding of a electric utility operation, re: generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Understanding the basic maintenance requirements and work methods for distribution and transmission structures.
  • Best work practices, procedures for work on an energized transmission and distribution system.
  • Field management roles and responsibilities.

PART TWO: (1 hour)

  • Identify electrical hazards and learn how to control or mitigate risks.
  • Safety training and certification requirements for all individuals working on or around the electrical system.
  • Understand the importance of Grounding and Bonding and review general procedures.
  • Management requirements to audit utility work crew safe work practices regularly.
  •

Switching Best Practices (1 hour)

Stepping up and stepping down power is the center of every distribution substation operation, including yours. To do that, you need a whole lot of equipment and people with detailed knowledge about that equipment and just how to use it. This session will give you an expert’s opinion on the best ways to use switching for maintenance, fault clearing and reliability.
